Best Breville Juicers: Comparison Reviews of the Top Models in 2017

The Australia-born company Breville is best known among juicing fans for their high-quality centrifugal juicers.

In fact, the company is so well-known that the name “Breville” is sometimes used interchangeably with the word “juicer!”

Currently, Breville juicers are among the top-selling models on Amazon, and their Juice Fountain line occupies about 20 percent of the juicer market worldwide.

But what, if anything, makes Breville juicers superior to the many other juicer brands? We wanted to look closer at the juicing giant to find out if their best-selling juicing machines live up to the hype.

Out of Breville’s many different models, we picked three favorites: the Juice Fountain Duo, the Juice Fountain Plus, and the Juice Fountain Compact.

Each juicer model has its own set of strengths and weaknesses, and each caters best to a different lifestyle.

Juice Fountain Plus

Topping the list of the best-selling juicers on Amazon is the Juice Fountain Plus, an inexpensive centrifugal juicer that comes in an attractive and sturdy brushed metal and black polymer combination.

The feed tube is an extra large circular design with a 3-inch diameter, about the width of a medium-sized apple. The large mouth of the feeder eliminates the need to chop up most of your fruit and veggies beforehand.

The Juice Fountain Plus is powered by a 850-watt dual-speed motor. There are two different settings: a low speed of 6,500 RPM (used for softer produce) and a high speed of 12,000 RPM (for hard produce).

The motor powers the“Nutridisk,” a fast spinning, steel-bladed plate that shreds the produce and spins the pulp into the steel mesh filter basket.

A brush for cleaning the mesh filter and disc, a plunger, and a large 1 liter juice jug with a froth separator are included alongside the Juice Fountain Plus.

Despite its bargain price point, the Juice Fountain Plus is sturdy in its construction and delivers powerful performance. This solid, durable machine can produce an 8 ounce glass of juice in 5 seconds, and the stainless steel blades of the Nutridisk are capable of shredding the rind off of pineapple chunks.

But efficiency is truly the strongest quality of this juicer—the Juice Fountain Plus makes every step of the juicing process faster, from prep to cleanup. The large mouth of the feed tube allows you to skip the tedious work of chopping up fruits and veggies, and the powerful motor makes quick work of even the toughest produce. When it’s time to clean out the juicer, it disassembles quickly, and most of its removable parts are even dishwasher-safe.

Another feature that gives the Juice Fountain Plus an edge over other centrifugal juicers: the Nutridisk is also designed to preserve the vitamins and enzymes in the fruit juice, a feature most of Breville’s competition doesn’t share.

Normally, the heat generated by the fast spinning of the blades in centrifugal models destroys these temperature-sensitive nutrients—one of the biggest downsides of centrifugal juicers. But the Nutridisk found in the Juice Fountain Plus (and other Breville juicers) transfers less than 1.8 ℉ of heat into the juice.

Finally, the Juice Fountain Plus produces a lot of juice for a centrifugal model, and performs equally well with hard and soft produce. The pulp ejected from this juicer is almost completely dry, indicating that most of the available juice from the produce ends up in your cup.

A small but notable percentage of online reviewers noted that this juicer sometimes splattered—the spinning blade was so fast that it sometimes shot pulp up through the feed tube. Keeping the plunger in the tube when the juicer is operation should help eliminate this problem.

Like most centrifugal juicers, the Juice Fountain Plus is effective at juicing hard produce, but somewhat less effective when it comes to soft produce—particularly leafy greens like kale and spinach.

If you’re looking to get the most out of greens, you’ll need to buy a masticating juicer. However, centrifugal models can do a passable job if used correctly. Breville includes tips on how to get the most out of soft produce and greens in the instruction manual for this juicer.

The Juice Fountain Plus may be inexpensive, but the quality is by no means cheap. On the contrary, it’s sturdy and efficient with power to spare. With a wide feed chute, lightning-fast juicing time, and easy cleanup, the Juice Fountain Plus makes the time-consuming process of juice-making a lot shorter!

It’s a fantastic choice for first-time juicers, shoppers on a budget, or for those who want to enjoy the benefits of juicing but don’t have much time to spare. There may be superior juicers out there, but you’d be hard-pressed to find them at this price!

Juice Fountain Compact

As you might have guessed from the name, Breville’s Juice Fountain Compact is the miniature member of the Juice Fountain family. It’s designed to save counter and cupboard space with a slimmer build and smaller footprint.

Since it’s smaller (and less expensive), the Juice Fountain Compact keeps some of the features found in the larger Juice Fountain models and gets rid of some of the others.

Like the Juice Fountain Plus, the Compact has a wide, 3-inch feed tube, the Nutridisk basket, and a 1 liter juice-collecting jug with a froth separator.

It’s slightly lower in power, with a 700 watt motor, which spins the blades at a 13,000 RPM. The cutting disc is made of titanium, and most of the parts are safe to wash in the top shelf of your dishwasher.

The Juice Fountain Compact will appeal to shoppers with small kitchens, or to homeowners who want a juicer that can be stored on the counter. For those who juice daily, the convenience of keeping their juicer ready and waiting each morning is a compelling asset.

Despite its small size and slightly reduced wattage, the Juice Fountain Compact is still a powerful machine. It juices nearly as fast as Breville’s larger models, and it’s still capable of pulverizing the toughest produce you can throw at it.

Like the Juice Fountain Plus, the Compact makes the juicing process a short affair. The wide mouth of the feed tube eliminates a good deal of prep time, and the spinning blade liquefies whole fruits on contact.

With even fewer parts to disassemble, the Juice Fountain Compact also has the easiest cleanup you’re likely to find in any juicer.

The Juice Fountain Compact doesn’t have variable speed controls. Though it’s powerful enough to handle hard produce, the lack of a slow speed setting makes this juicer less effective when it comes to soft produce like leafy greens.

The large external pulp container of Breville’s bigger juicers is absent from the Juice Fountain Compact. Instead, pulp is collected within the footprint of the unit, and emptying the container requires taking the juice apart. This means the Compact is less suited for serving multiple people or extended juicing sessions.

It’s also somewhat noisier than the other Breville juicers, a downside that might bother early morning juicers. As with the Juice Fountain Plus, some owners complained of splatter.

The Juice Fountain Compact takes much of the great aspects from Breville’s big juicers and wraps it in a smaller, less expensive package.

It’s not quite as powerful or versatile as its larger brethren, but its smaller size does make it a better choice for many shoppers. For buyers who are short on kitchen space or time, the Juice Fountain Compact is a great option that can hold its own against the big guys.

Juice Fountain Duo

At the high end of the Juice Fountain spectrum stands the Juice Fountain Duo, Breville’s top-of-the-line centrifugal juicer.

This die-cast machine is packed to the brim with power and features aimed at experienced juicers looking to take their craft to the next level. But what makes the Duo different from the rest of the Juice Fountain Line?

First and foremost, the Duo is Breville’s only “dual juice processor”—because it features two different juicing discs. One is the Nutridisk found in Breville’s other models, used primarily for juicing hard produce. The second is a puree disc that’s designed especially for juicing soft fruit and vegetables.

In addition to the two juicing discs, the Duo has a 5 speed electronic dial to adjust the machine for maximum juice yields. The lowest setting is 6,500 RPM and the highest setting is 13,000 RPM. The Duo is powered by a 1,2000 watt motor.

The Juice Fountain Duo comes with larger capacity pulp container of 3 liters. Like the other Juice Fountain models, it also has the large 3-inch feed tube and a 1 liter juice collection cup.

One look at the Juice Fountain Duo tells you the construction of this juicer is a cut above the competition. The die-cast brushed steel frame gives an air of commercial grade quality and durability. Most of the components—inside and out—are also made of the same heavy-grade steel.

The Duo doesn’t just look great, either. It has the most powerful motor of any Juice Fountain model, and its top speed of 13,000 RPM is also the highest available. Despite its souped-up motor, however, the Duo has relatively quiet operation—even on the highest setting.

The variable speed settings and the two different juicing discs make the Duo a uniquely versatile juicer. Though it’s strong enough to liquefy the toughest produce, it’s also the best in the Juice Fountain line for juicing soft fruits and veggies.

It will take a bit of experimentation to figure out which setting is right for which produce. Once you master the Duo’s speed settings, however, you’ll get 20-30 percent more juice yield than other centrifugal models.

The puree disc is a great addition to this juicer. Not only does it help you get more juice from leafy greens (a notorious challenge for centrifugal juicers), but it also lets you make smoothies with the Duo from soft fruits like berries, bananas and avocados.

Though it’s larger and more powerful, the Juice Fountain Duo is as easy to clean as any other Breville juicer. In fact, the stainless steel construction makes it somewhat easier than the other Juice Fountain models.

The biggest drawback for most shoppers will be the price—the Duo is the most expensive member of the Juice Fountain family. If you plan to juice often, or in large quantities, this juicer is a worthwhile investment. Those who plan to use their next juicer sparingly might want to purchase a less expensive model.

The Duo is also quite large. Moving it around isn’t an issue (it’s surprisingly light) but storage might be an issue for shoppers with small kitchens

The most expensive member of the Juice Fountain line is well worth the price for experienced juicers. With a more powerful motor, more variable speeds, and the most durable construction you’re likely to find in any centrifugal juicer, buyers get what they pay for with the Juice Fountain Duo.

The two juicing discs and five speed settings make the Juice Fountain Duo a singularly versatile centrifugal model. From the softest produce like leafy greens and berries to the hardest beets and carrots—the Juice Fountain Duo can handle it all.
