Decades before the movie Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, there was Jack LaLanne: celebrity bodybuilder, fitness guru, and creator of the Jack LaLanne juicer line.
LaLanne is sometimes called the “godfather of fitness.” As early as the 1930s, he set out to spread the concept of healthy eating and exercise to the American public through books, television, and other media.
In 2002, LaLanne began promoting the Jack LaLanne Power Juicer through a series of infomercials, extolling the health benefits of fresh juice made in your own kitchen. As a testament to the fitness icon’s authority and influence, the new company sold over 2 million units within two years.
LaLanne’s juicers weren’t the first on the market, but they did play a central role in bringing juicing into the American home kitchen. Today, the Jack LaLanne brand produces a handful of different centrifugal juicer models that still represent a significant chunk of juicer sales around the world.
But has the pioneering company stood the test of time? Juicer technology has come a long way in the past decade, and LaLanne juicers face a lot more competition than when they started out.
We wanted to take a closer look at a few different LaLanne juicers to see how they measure up in today’s competitive juicer market. We picked the three best-selling models right now for review: the Power Juicer Deluxe, the Power Juicer Pro, and the Power Juicer Express.

Best Jack LaLanne Power Juicer Reviews
Power Juicer Deluxe
The Power Juicer Deluxe could be considered LaLanne’s middle-of-the-road model in terms of power and price—it’s more expensive than the stripped-down Power Juicer Express, but cheaper than the souped-up Power Juicer Pro.
The classic design of the Deluxe is similar to the flagship Power Juicer from the infomercials, with an updated brushed stainless steel housing and new movable, non drip spout. The spinning blade inside this juicer is also made of stainless steel, as is the mesh in the filter basket.
The 250 watt motor under the hood of the Deluxe operates at 3,600 RPM. The simple, single switch interface of this juicer means there’s only two settings for this juicer—on and off.
The Deluxe also features an extra wide round feed chute—which saves a bit of prep time by allowing you to insert produce whole into the juicer—and a large capacity pulp collection basket.
The Power Juicer Deluxe is surprisingly sturdy and reliable for the price. The stainless steel components are of a high quality, and the motor is backed with a lifetime warranty.
The parts of this juicer are easy to assemble and disassemble, making it a breeze to set up the juicer during prep time and break it down again when it comes time for clean up. Unlike many competing models, all the pieces of the Power Juicer Deluxe are dishwasher safe.
The infomercials for LaLanne juicers famously claim that these juicers produce 30% more juice than other juicers. The accuracy of that percentage will vary, but consumer tests show that the Power Juicer Deluxe does in fact have higher juice yields than its leading centrifugal competitors—even models sold at twice the cost.
Finally, the Power Juicer Deluxe is perhaps the quietest centrifugal juicer on the market right now. Even when processing the toughest produce, the Deluxe is noticeably quieter than any of its competitors.
Though delivers strong results on harder produce, the Deluxe has lackluster performance when it comes to the softest fruits and veggies (like tomatoes, berries, and mangoes). Leafy greens are also mostly wasted by this juicer.
Despite some of the sturdy stainless steel components, some important components of this machine that should have been made of metal are instead plastic. For example, the screw peg that holds the blade and basket in place is made from a flimsy plastic.
Finally, even though the motor has a lifetime warranty, the rest of the components are only covered for a period of 90 days. Most competing juicers have full warranties for at least a year.
The Power Juicer Deluxe’s biggest strength is its impressive juice yield. Even when compared to competitors multiple times the price, this juicer delivers significantly more juice from all but the softest of produce. It’s also the quietest centrifugal juicer we could find—a strong plus for juicers who want to use their machine early in the morning.
The Deluxe has some notable weaknesses, but overall this inexpensive juicer’s good outweighs the bad, and it’s well worth the retail price! It’s a great pick for first time juicers, although more experience shoppers may want to invest in a higher-end model.
Power Juicer Express
The Power Juicer Express is the LaLanne line’s least expensive juicer. It’s also one of the most compact centrifugal juicers around, with a slim build and small footprint.
The Express comes in three different designs to better pair with your kitchen decor: white, black, and stainless steel. It has an attractive, sleek design and the exterior is a hard plastic (except for the slightly more expensive PJESS, the stainless steel plated version).
Despite its smaller size, the Express has the same amount of power as the Deluxe—the 250-watt motor spins the blade at 3,600 RPM. Like the Deluxe, the Express features a non-drip spout and a surgical grade stainless steel blade.
The main appeal of the Express is its low price and compact design. It is light, slim and has a small footprint that won’t take up too much cupboard or counter space. The compact build of this juicer will definitely appeal to homeowners with limited kitchen space.
The best part of the Express’s smaller size, however, is the fact that none of the power of the larger Deluxe was sacrificed in order to keep the Express compact. Most miniature versions of full-sized centrifugal juicers also feature motors with lower wattage and RPM, but that isn’t the case with the Power Juicer Express.
The equal power and RPM means that the compact express can handle any and all of the produce that the Deluxe can—including tough customers like carrots and beets. As with the Deluxe, the Express produces an impressive quantity and quality of juice.
Also similar to the Deluxe, the Express also features a very quiet motor for a centrifugal juicer. One reviewer compared the noise generated by the Express to that of a microwave oven. Though not all of the parts are dishwasher-safe, most reviewers found cleanup very easy with this machine.
Perhaps it’s to be expected in this price range, but nearly all of the components of the Express are made of plastic (except the blade, of course). There are varying accounts of this juicer’s durability online—some reviewers complained that the Express broke after only a few months, while others asserted that they had owned their juicer for years without any issues.
Those who had owned their juicer for several years suggested that proper care was essential to maintaining the Express in working order. The plastic components make the Express somewhat more delicate than higher-end models, and these reviewers stressed the importance of being gentle as you push fruits and vegetables into this juicer.
The manual that comes with the Express includes juicing and care tips to extend the life of the juicer. Still, a lack of durability is definitely a shortcoming of this machine.
The Power Juicer Express keeps much of the good from the Power Juicer Deluxe and fits it in a more compact, less expensive package. The Express is a terrific juicer for beginners—if it is used and maintained properly. It’s efficient, inexpensive, and produces great juice yields.
Though the strong performance of this juicer is somewhat undercut by its delicate build, the Express offers a lot for a low price. If you’re just entering the world of juicing, or you’re short on kitchen space or cash, the Express is a great buy.
Power Juicer Pro
The Power Juicer Pro is the highest-end model of the LaLanne Power Juicer line, with an impressive, stainless-steel build that’s both sleek and powerful-looking.
The high-quality steel construction is the main improvement that the Pro offers over the lower-end members of the Power Juicer Family. The operation and power of the Pro is much the same as that of the Deluxe and Express.
The Pro operates at the same speed and wattage as the other Power Juicers, with a 250-watt motor and 3,600 RPM speed. The blades and mesh pulp basket of the Pro are also made of high-quality surgical grade steel.
Like the other Power Juicer models, the Pro features a non-drip spout and an extra large chute that accommodates produce whole, saving you prep time. Like the Deluxe, it features an extra large pulp collection container. All of the parts of the Power Juicer Pro are dishwasher-safe, and the unit assembles and disassembles quickly.
The Power Juicer Pro improves on the other Power Juicer models by adding higher-quality, stainless steel components. One of the most prominent weaknesses of the other Power Juicers is the flimsy plastic construction of some parts, and the Pro handily overcomes this shortcoming with its durable construction. More stainless steel also makes the Pro easier to clean than the other Power Juicers, as well as giving it an all-around attractive and professional appearance.
The motor and blade work through fruit quickly, and the Pro produces an impressive quantity of juice. Consumer tests back up the claim that the Pro (as the infomercials suggest) yields more juice than its competitors, and the improved design and construction mean the Pro produces more juice than the other LaLanne power juicers, as well.
The Pro, like the other LaLanne juicers, is advertised as having a “whisper-quiet motor.” This is a bit of an exaggeration, but the Pro is significantly quieter than other centrifugal models.
Finally, like the Deluxe, the Power Juicer Pro has a lifetime warranty on the motor.
The Power Juicer Pro, as the highest quality member of the Power Juicer line, is also the most expensive. For fans of the LaLanne juicers, it’s worth investing in the Pro for its superior durability. However, we can’t help but wish that the LaLanne company had added more improvements to the Pro for the additional cost.
Though operation is slightly improved in the Pro, this juicer has a similar set of problems as the other Power Juicers when it comes to soft, ripe fruits and leafy greens. Fans of this juicer say to get the most juice out of the Pro, it’s critically important to read the tips and tricks that are offered in the manual.
The updated stainless steel construction is the main improvement that the Power Juicer Pro offers over the other Power Juicer models. It’s a big improvement, however—the Pro is much more durable, easier to clean, and more attractive than its predecessors.
For the extra cost, it would have been nice to see more updates added to the Pro. Still, the Pro offers its owners higher juice yields than competing models. With careful maintenance and proper usage, the Pro stands to be a beloved fixture in your kitchen for years to come.
